What to note when adopting a stray cat

When adopting a stray cat, the first step for the owner is to take the cat for a health examination to check for diseases such as feline distemper, skin diseases, and ear mites. Secondly, if the inspection results are good, the owner should pay attention to deworming and vaccination for the stray cat. Furthermore, the owner should also prepare various daily necessities for the stray cat to help it adapt to the new environment. Finally, after the stray cat adapts to the new environment, the owner should pay attention to its hygiene and give it a bath to clean its body. In addition, if there are other cats in the house, the owner should also pay attention to isolation. Do not let the two cats have contact until the stray cat has finished vaccination.

  1. Take the stray cat for a health examination

As stray cats have been living outdoors for a long time, they are prone to parasites and other diseases. Therefore, when the owner decides to adopt a stray cat, they should first take it to the pet hospital for a full physical examination to see if it carries infectious diseases such as feline distemper virus, feline upper respiratory virus, and feline infectious peritonitis virus, and check if the cat has skin diseases such as ringworm, and whether the conjunctiva and ears are normal. If so, treat it directly. If everything is healthy, take it home.

  1. Deworm and vaccinate the stray cat

After the stray cat's health examination, if the inspection results are good, deworm it on the same day and observe its spirit, appetite, and bowel movements to see if they are normal. If everything is normal after a week of observation, the stray cat can be vaccinated. However, if any abnormalities are found, take it to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment in a timely manner.

  1. Prepare daily necessities for the stray cat

When deciding to bring the stray cat home, the owner should also pay attention to preparing various daily necessities in advance, such as cat food, cat litter boxes, food and water bowls, cat scratching boards, cat toys, cat fishing rods, etc., allowing the cat to gradually adapt to the new environment.

  1. Give the stray cat a bath

After the stray cat adapts to the new home, the owner can start preparing to give it a bath and dry its fur in a timely manner after the bath to prevent the cat from catching a cold.

  1. Pay attention to isolation

If there are other cats in the house, the owner should initially isolate the stray cat from the household cats to avoid the spread of diseases. After the stray cat has completed the examination, deworming, vaccination, and bathing, try allowing the household cats to start contacting the stray cat.
