Are cat flea collars effective?

Cat flea collars are indeed useful. Wearing a flea collar can repel external parasites such as fleas, lice, and mites. However, the downside is that the flea collar has a shelf life of two years and needs to be replaced within one month. If it expires, it can be harmful. There are also cases where cats have ingested flea collars and experienced poisoning. Therefore, it is recommended to choose drop-based insecticides instead.

Should cats wear flea collars?

It is not recommended to put flea collars on cats as they pose an allergy and poisoning risk. Flea collars have a certain level of toxicity, and if not produced by a regular manufacturer, the risk is higher. Cats may not be comfortable wearing them because they are naturally free-spirited animals who dislike being confined. Flea collars also need to be replaced regularly as they lose their efficacy when wet or after a long time. Therefore, it is recommended to use topical drops, which are safe, low-toxic, and efficient.

Why do cats get fleas?

Cats usually get fleas from their environment. Fleas may already be present in the house, or they may be brought in from outside when the cat goes outside or when the owner returns home. If fleas are found, insecticides such as Ailissu, Niclosan, and Supercat should be used promptly. It is best not to bathe the cat after using insecticides, and regular flea control is necessary.

How to eliminate fleas on cats?

The most effective way to eliminate fleas on cats is to give them a medicated bath and perform external parasite control. The house should be cleaned thoroughly, and any fleas that escape or fall onto the bed should be vacuumed up. Pay special attention to corners of the room, the edges of wooden floors, and areas between carpet and blankets. If fleas still persist, insecticides can be used to kill both adults and eggs. They can also be sprayed in small amounts in the cat's living area.
