Black dirt in kitten's nostrils
Black dirt in a kitten's nostrils may be just dirt or it could be caused by fungal infection or feline upper respiratory tract infection. First of all, the owner can first wipe the kitten's nose with a wet towel. If the black dirt can be wiped off, it means the kitten just got dirty and there is no need to worry too much. Secondly, the owner can check the kitten's skin. If symptoms such as hair loss, dandruff, and tinea are found, it may be a skin disease caused by fungal infection, and anti-fungal drugs are needed for treatment. Finally, if the kitten has symptoms such as sneezing and running nose, it may be feline upper respiratory tract infection. The owner is advised to take the kitten to the pet hospital for PCR confirmation.
- Dirt
If the black dirt on the kitten's nose can be wiped off and it's just a little bit, it means the kitten just got dirty or has nasal mucus. The owner can use a cotton swab or a wet towel to gently remove the black dirt from the kitten's nose. If it's too deep, don't try to pick it out yourself, as it may damage the nasal cavity.
- Fungal infection
If the kitten has black dirt in the nose and other symptoms such as local tinea, hair loss, and dandruff, it may be caused by a fungal infection in the nose. The owner is advised to consult a pet doctor in time and use anti-fungal drugs for treatment.
- Feline upper respiratory tract infection
If the kitten has a lot of black dirt in the nose and symptoms such as sneezing and running nose, it may be suffering from feline upper respiratory tract infection. In this case, the owner needs to take the kitten to the pet hospital for treatment in time to avoid delaying the illness.
