It is best to start bathing your dog after it is two months old. Before that, you can use a wet towel to help the dog wipe itself. It should be slightly warmer than the dog's body temperature, but try not to exceed 5 degrees. After the bath, dry the dog's fur with a towel and use a hair dryer to ensure that the fur is completely dry to prevent the dog from catching a cold or developing skin diseases.
When can a Border Collie puppy have a bath?
A Border Collie puppy can have a bath from the age of three months. Before that, to prevent the puppy from catching a cold, you can use a clean cloth dipped in warm water to help them clean themselves. It's also important to choose a bath gel suitable for puppies at the beginning, to avoid irritating their skin. Later, slowly observe your dog's skin condition to see if it easily gets oily or dry with dandruff, and choose the appropriate bath gel according to their skin condition.
How often should dogs have a bath?
Usually once a week or once every two weeks, depending on the dog's size, body odor, fur volume, and degree of dirt. If the dog plays outside and gets particularly dirty, they can have a bath once a week at most. In winter, they can have a bath every two weeks. Never bath your dog too frequently; in between baths, you can use a wet towel to wipe the dog's body if it gets dirty. Frequent bathing can make your dog's fur dry and frizzy, leading to severe hair loss.
Points to note when bathing a dog
Bath gel: Use dog-specific gel, never use human bath products on your dog. Water temperature: Neither too hot nor too cold, as both are harmful to your dog's health. Also, take good warming measures to prevent your dog from catching a cold. Dry the fur: After the bath, dry your dog's fur thoroughly or else bacteria can easily grow and cause skin diseases. Care: Use a cotton swab to wipe the water out of your dog's ear to prevent moisture from breeding ear mites.
