Can cats eat walnuts?

Cats cannot eat walnuts. Like many other nuts, walnuts contain some unknown toxins, especially the inner membrane of walnuts. If cats eat them, they are likely to experience muscle pain, vomiting, and mental confusion, and even可能导致bone pain and muscle tremors. Moreover, walnuts are rich in fat. If cats eat too many of them, they may easily suffer from indigestion and obesity. Therefore, it is recommended that owners feed their cats with cat food as their main diet, and avoid giving them human food.

  1. Reasons why cats cannot eat walnuts:

    • Walnuts and other nut foods contain potential toxins that may cause poisoning in cats. Therefore, nuts such as pecans and macadamias should also not be given to cats.

    • Walnuts have a high fat content, which increases the metabolic burden on cats and leads to obesity. Moreover, the kernel of walnuts is rich in fat and some trace elements, which are harmful to the cat's internal organs, especially the liver, and can easily cause fatty liver.

    • For young cats, eating walnuts can easily cause choking, esophageal or digestive tract blockage, and even lead to suffocation. Therefore, owners must pay attention and not feed walnuts to cats with fast eating habits.

  2. What to do if a cat eats walnuts:

If a cat eats walnuts, observe whether it shows any clinical symptoms, such as depression, loss of appetite, coughing, vomiting, etc. If so, take the cat to a pet hospital promptly for examination, and let the doctor handle the situation based on the cat's condition.
