Can cats take antibiotics for inflammation?

Cats can take antibiotic drugs when they have inflammation. Antibiotics include penicillin, ceftiofur, and gentamicin, among others. The most commonly used ones are penicillin-based antibiotics. However, different antibiotics have different areas of action and dosage requirements. Cats, due to their physiological characteristics, are sensitive to many drugs, and carelessness can lead to drug poisoning. Therefore, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian before administering medication to a cat and follow their instructions.

Antibiotic Action

Antibiotics generally work to fight inflammation within the body. When a cat has an infection, antibiotic treatment is necessary. Antibiotics are injected according to the cat's weight, and excessive doses can lead to liver and kidney damage, kidney failure, and other symptoms. Therefore, owners should not randomly feed cats antibiotics or other medications at home.

Internal Inflammation Check Methods

Cats with internal inflammation need to undergo blood routine tests and SAA checks. The blood routine mainly examines the number of white blood cells. If a cat has a viral infection, the number of white blood cells in the blood routine may not necessarily increase. The SAA test, another inflammation check for cats, can determine whether the cat has an infection, whether it's bacterial or viral.

Inflammation Treatment Methods

Use broad-spectrum antibiotics to treat cat inflammation, such as penicillin and ceftiofur. It is best to use the medication after determining the type of inflammation, for example, pneumonia can be treated with tylosin. If conditions permit, a drug sensitivity test can be performed on the cat to determine which bacteria causing the inflammation are sensitive to which drug. This can help the cat recover health more quickly.
