Canine Distemper Symptoms

The clinical symptoms of canine distemper mainly include: cough, sneeze, runny nose, increased eye secretions, recurrent fever, conjunctival congestion, etc. In the later stages of the disease, there may also be symptoms such as seizures, weakness in the four limbs, poor mental and appetite. Canine distemper is a serious infectious disease, mainly susceptible to young dogs with poor resistance and unvaccinated dogs. The course of the disease is long, and some even last for more than 1 month. Therefore, it is recommended that owners bring their dogs to a pet hospital for diagnosis and treatment in a timely manner to avoid missing the best treatment time.

Early Symptoms of Canine Distemper

The early symptoms of canine distemper are extremely similar to those of a cold, and owners should not confuse them. The main manifestations include cough, sneeze, increased eye secretions, serous nasal discharge, lethargy, fever, etc. At the same time, it may also cause secondary gastrointestinal diseases, manifesting as vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite.

Late Symptoms of Canine Distemper

In the late stage of canine distemper, dogs may show neurological symptoms such as seizures, howling, froth-spitting, and unstable gait. Some dogs may also have symptoms of conjunctivitis and keratitis. If the dog's symptoms have reached the late stage of neurological symptoms, it means the disease is severe, and the dog may be in danger at any time.

Note: The cure rate for dogs in the early stage of canine distemper is higher than that in the middle and late stages. This requires owners to pay more attention to their dogs' daily performance and seek medical attention in a timely manner when abnormalities occur. In addition, the prevention of infectious diseases is also very important. Owners should not only strengthen their dogs' physical exercise and nutrition intake but also vaccinate them on time. If owners are still worried, they can conduct an antibody test 15-21 days after vaccination to check if the antibodies are qualified.
