Canine pregnancy: 45 days and dark-colored urine discharge
The estimated due date for a dog pregnancy is about 58 days after breeding. During pregnancy, it is possible for there to be discharged secretions from the vulva, but they are usually clear and transparent. Therefore, if a dog has dark-colored urine discharge at 45 days of pregnancy, it is suspected of having a miscarriage or stillbirth. In this case, it is necessary to go to the hospital for an abdominal ultrasound examination to confirm whether there are any uterine problems and whether the fetal heartbeat exists.
Is it normal to have discharge during pregnancy?
It is normal for a dog to have a small amount of discharge during pregnancy. However, if the discharge is too much or of an abnormal color, such as red, green, or bloody, it is an abnormal phenomenon. The dog may be experiencing a miscarriage, premature birth, or an infection of the endometrium, with fetal dissolution or fetal death possible.
Symptoms of pregnancy miscarriage
The symptoms of a dog experiencing a miscarriage during pregnancy usually include the following: profuse bleeding or pus discharge from the vulva, and the dog having poor mental and appetite health. The dog may show signs of labor before reaching the expected delivery date, delivering a deceased fetus. There may be bleeding from the vulva, or even a dark brown or pus-like discharge due to fetal dissolution and absorption.
Treatment of miscarriage symptoms
If it is early in the pregnancy, it is recommended to go to the hospital as soon as possible. The hospital will do its best to save the dog and the fetus. If the fetus is severely injured, it may become a stillbirth or have birth defects. Generally, doctors recommend artificial abortion. If it is close to the end of the pregnancy, a cesarean section can be performed at the hospital to remove the fetus and mother from danger as soon as possible.
