What causes cat fur to turn white?
Cat fur turning white may be due to genetic inheritance, aging, improper diet, or frequent bathing. If it is caused by genetic inheritance, it cannot be changed manually and daily care should be taken. If the whitening of the fur is caused by the cat's aging or improper diet, the owner can supplement the cat's daily nutrition, feed it lecithin, and take care of its fur. If the whitening is caused by frequent bathing, the frequency of bathing should be adjusted promptly.
- Genetic inheritance
If the parents of the cat also have a preference for white fur, their offspring may also exhibit white fur, which is a natural phenomenon and cannot be changed manually.
- Aging
As cats enter their senior years, their fur color begins to lighten and turn white. Generally, the whitening starts from the mouth and then spreads to the entire face. This is a normal occurrence. At the same time, the fur of elderly cats usually becomes dry and lacks luster. To care for the cat's fur, the owner can supplement the cat's daily nutrition, feed it lecithin, and take good care of its fur.
- Improper diet
If the cat only eats a single type of cat food, causing insufficient nutrition in the body, or eats too much seasoning, such as salt and monosodium glutamate, it will lead to dry and white fur. In this case, the owner needs to promptly adjust the cat's diet, supplementing foods rich in trace elements and vitamins to enhance the cat's resistance. Remember not to feed the cat human food, or it will cause abnormal hair loss.
- Frequent bathing
It is generally recommended to give the cat a bath every 1-2 months. If the cat is bathed too frequently or with human shampoo, it can easily damage the cat's skin and fur, leading to white fur. Therefore, owners should not frequently bathe their cats and try not to use human shampoo on them. Additionally, cats under 3 months old should not be bathed, as they are prone to catching a cold. Cats should also not be bathed during the week before and after receiving vaccinations.
