What's going on when my cat keeps meowing and wandering around?
Often during the process of raising a cat, owners may encounter situations where their cats constantly meow and wander around. This behavior usually requires considering multiple factors, such as whether the cat has physiological needs or is feeling uncomfortable in some way and unable to sit or lie down properly, or if the cat is trying to attract attention from its owner.
When a cat keeps meowing and wandering around without stopping, it could be due to the following reasons:
1. The cat is hungry or thirsty
If your cat is constantly meowing and circling you, it's likely because it's hungry or thirsty. In this case, feed your cat some cat food and make sure it has access to plenty of water. Afterward, it should stop meowing. Generally, feed your cat two to three meals a day.
2. The cat needs to go to the bathroom
Cats are clean animals, and if the litter box is dirty, they may refuse to use it. Instead, they'll meow by your side, asking you to clean it up. It's recommended to clean the litter box at least once a day or risk increasing the cat's risk of infection and urinary tract diseases.
3. The cat is in heat
When a cat is in heat, it will emit howls, especially at night. Some cats will pace around the house or jump around. Some cats may even urinate everywhere. If your cat is over six months old, it's advised to have it spayed or neutered at a pet hospital. This will not only stop the cat from howling at night and urinating everywhere but also reduce the risk of the cat falling from heights and developing reproductive system diseases.
4. The cat wants its owner's company
When a cat wants its owner to play with it, it will rub against their legs and emit gentle meows. You can use toys like a catnip mouse or a laser pointer to play with your cat or gently stroke its head, chin, and abdomen to foster a stronger bond.
