What drugs to use for cat ringworm
Cat ringworm treatment requires the use of antifungal drugs, such as those containing terbinafine hydrochloride, itraconazole, and other ingredients. If the cat's ringworm infection is severe, it is necessary to combine drug bath treatment with ketoconazole-containing drugs. Ringworm is a stubbornly infectious fungal disease with a long treatment period of at least three weeks or more. The specific treatment duration varies depending on the degree of the cat's ringworm infection, the cat's physical condition, and its living environment.
Firstly, after a cat contracts ringworm, it needs to be treated orally with antifungal drugs or sprays, such as those containing terbinafine hydrochloride, itraconazole, and other ingredients. After a cat contracts ringworm, the hair in the affected area should be removed first to facilitate application of the medication. Before applying the medication, the affected area can be cleaned and disinfected with a hot towel, making it easier for the drug to take effect.
Secondly, if the cat's ringworm-infected area is wide, a ketoconazole-containing drug can be used for drug bath treatment. It is best to soak the cat for about half an hour to promote the drug's efficacy. During the treatment process, it is also necessary to wear an Elizabethan collar to prevent the cat from licking the medication and spreading the fungus. Medication should only be stopped after the ringworm is completely cured to avoid repeated infections and prolonged treatment.
Lastly, ringworm is a zoonotic disease that can also infect humans. During the treatment period, owners need to pay attention to personal protection. They should disinfect and wash their hands frequently after contacting the cat. If there are multiple cats in the house, the sick cat should be isolated for feeding to prevent infection among other cats. Cat owners should also increase the cat's nutrition and immunity, avoid keeping the living environment too damp, and expose the cat to more sunlight to enhance its skin resistance.
