Can cat ulcerative conjunctivitis be cured?

Cat ulcerative conjunctivitis can be cured. If the conjunctivitis is caused by bacteria, it will generally improve in 5 to 10 days if treated promptly. If it is caused by herpesvirus, calicivirus, or chlamydia, the course of the disease is longer and requires combined systemic treatment. During treatment, do not bathe and insist on dropping eyes to avoid exacerbating inflammation. Feed your cat some nutritional food to help it recover faster.

Causes of Conjunctivitis

Cataracts are one of the more common ophthalmic diseases in cats. Conjunctivitis in cats can be caused by dust or hair entering the eyes. It may also be caused by inflammation, scratching damage, or other factors. Bacterial infections, allergies, foreign body stimulation, immune-mediated diseases, and trauma can all potentially lead to conjunctivitis.

Symptoms of Conjunctivitis

The most common clinical symptoms of cat conjunctivitis are: red, swollen, and congested conjunctiva, tearing, reluctance to open the eyes, and increased eye secretions. The secretions can range from white mucus to yellow-green mucus. Some cats will exhibit scratching behavior around the eyes, further exacerbating eye discomfort. Sneezing and rhinorrhea may also occur simultaneously with ocular lesions. Severe infections can lead to permanent scarring of the cornea and conjunctiva, and in some cases, affect the drainage pathway of tears, resulting in long-term tearing.

Treatment of Conjunctivitis

Cats with conjunctivitis mainly have bacterial or viral infections, and it is necessary to find the root cause for treatment. Generally, symptomatic treatment involves using eye washes or 3% boric acid solutions to clean the eyes, followed by the application of eye ointments. Common treatments include Pfizer eye ointment, chloramphenicol eye drops, Parker eye ointment, Jieliu eye ointment, stem cell eye drops, etc. It is best to determine the cause of the disease. If it is a bacterial infection, use antibacterial agents; if it is a viral infection, use antiviral agents.
