How long does a cat's urinary tract infection take to cure?

A regular bacterial urinary tract infection may take about a week to cure, but if the cat's urinary tract infection is more severe, the recovery time may be longer. If untreated, it may lead to complications such as urinary tract obstruction and kidney failure. It is best to take the cat to the pet hospital for examination and treatment in a timely manner.

Urinary Tract Infection Treatment Time

The treatment time depends on the severity of the cat's condition and its weight. Usually, bacterial urinary tract infections caused by bacterial infections should be treated with antibiotics for 7-21 days; whereas urinary tract infections caused by stone infections require 4-6 weeks of antibiotic treatment to completely kill the pathogenic bacteria. During the treatment, a urine test should be done every 5-7 days to check if the pathogens have decreased or been eliminated.

Urinary Tract Infection Symptoms

A cat with urinary tract inflammation will have less urine. Urinary tract inflammation in cats can also cause the following symptoms: the cat takes a long time to finish urinating in the toilet, frequent urination, irritability. Loss of appetite, fever, urinating anywhere, urination accompanied by pain, howling, and licking the urethral opening frequently; vomiting, bloody urine, or even urinary tract obstruction. If a cat has a urinary tract infection, it should be taken to a pet hospital promptly to cooperate with the doctor's treatment.

Urinary Tract Infection Precautions

Cat urinary tract infections generally do not require cleaning. Cats are animals with high stress sensitivity. Forcibly cleaning may cause excessive stress in cats, leading to decreased resistance and even death. It is best to use pet-specific urinary tract antibacterials, analgesics, and protective agents for the urethral mucosa. Severe cases may require hospitalization for intravenous treatment.
