Do cats fear cold in winter?

Although cats have a lot of fur, they can still feel cold in winter, and cats at different age stages have different temperature requirements. After sleeping at night, cats' body temperatures drop, so indoor cats need individual warmth during winter, with comfortable and warm cat beds to reduce the risk of colds.

Cats do fear cold in winter, especially short-haired cats and young kittens. Getting cold can lead to感冒.

Young or newly born kittens are particularly susceptible to cold and require a higher environmental temperature because their internal metabolism is not enough to maintain their body temperature.

Adult healthy cats are not as afraid of cold. In winter, we can see some cats liking to hide in soft and warm cat beds. This proves that although cats fear cold, they are not as sensitive as humans, thanks to their thick fur coats.

For sick cats, such as those with heart disease, excessive heating is not necessary. High temperatures may cause cats to pant, have irregular heartbeats, or increase blood pressure, affecting their health. Cats with consumptive diseases, such as feline distemper or organ failure, need extra warmth. Owners must pay attention to this, as low temperatures can cause circulatory disorders. Feeling cold limbs, ears, or a cold tail may indicate organ failure.

In cold winter, when cats are particularly afraid of cold, parents should first prepare warm and comfortable cat beds. Replacing soft, warm sleeping pads allows cats to feel warm. If necessary, turn on the air conditioning to increase indoor temperatures and alleviate the feeling of cold. Or, consider dressing cats in warm clothes. While cats may not be accustomed to wearing clothes temporarily, it's still a good option for warmth.
