Dog acting restlessly and whining at night
If your dog is acting restlessly and whining at night, it could be due to hunger, coldness, or stress from being in a new environment. Dogs may feel scared and uneasy in unfamiliar surroundings, which can lead to restlessness and constant whining during the night.
You can judge whether your dog's restlessness and whining at night is caused by the following three factors:
Firstly, hunger. This is a common occurrence in young dogs. Dogs at this age are in a crucial stage of growth and development, requiring a substantial amount of nutrients to support their rapid body growth. Their digestion is more active, making them more susceptible to hunger. For dogs in this age group, it's recommended to feed them smaller meals more frequently. To avoid nighttime whining due to hunger, you can feed your dog before bedtime.
Secondly, dogs at this age are prone to feeling cold because their bodies are weak, with insufficient resistance and a partially developed immune system. They need extra warmth at night. Once they feel warm, they will sleep peacefully.
Thirdly, when a dog first comes home, it may feel nervous and scared in a new environment, especially at night. Give the dog time to adapt to its new surroundings and the people or animals it encounters. You can prepare items with your scent or the dog's mother's scent to comfort them. Familiar smells can help the dog sleep peacefully at night.
