What to do if there is inflammation after dog cesarean section
It is normal for a dog to have inflammation at the abdominal wound after cesarean section. The wound needs to be disinfected daily, and breastfeeding should be temporarily prohibited to prevent infection. If the infection is severe, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory treatment is required. After cesarean section, the dog's body is in a weakened state and needs to be infused with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory fluids to supplement energy.
Prenatal examination
Routine blood test, biochemical examination, ultrasound, and X-ray. The routine blood test can determine the current health status of the dog and whether there is anemia or inflammation. Biochemical examination can identify whether there are any organ problems, whether the dog can withstand surgery, or whether it can wake up after anesthesia. In addition, it is best for the dog to be infused during surgery in case of massive hemorrhage.
Whether to infuse after cesarean section
Usually, dogs do not need infusion after cesarean section, but they do need antibiotics to control infection. If the dog's condition is not good after surgery, infusion is necessary. Generally, the duration of cesarean section surgery is not long, and the dog's daily life is not affected after waking up. After recovering from self-feeding, proper care should be taken. Also, attention should be paid to avoid postpartum hypocalcemia, and timely infusion treatment should be given if it occurs.
Postpartum precautions
Dogs usually need to wait fifteen days after cesarean section before taking a bath. Ten days after the dog has a cesarean section, the stitches will be removed. If the dog takes a bath in the middle, it may cause wound infection and abscess. In the first few days after removing the stitches, the wound holes have not completely healed, so bathing is not allowed. Bathing may cause wound hole infection. Five days after removing the stitches, the dog can take a bath, but it needs to be quickly dried after bathing to avoid respiratory infection transmitted from the dog to the puppies during breastfeeding.
