Dog has loose stools presenting as brownish-yellow sludge
Loose stools presenting as brownish-yellow sludge in dogs may be caused by improper diet, cold exposure, parasite infection, infectious diseases, and other reasons. If it is not convenient to visit the vet temporarily and the dog's mental state is still acceptable, it is recommended to first fasting and water deprivation for 24 hours. After 24 hours, let the dog eat a little dog food and take probiotics orally to regulate the intestines. Then observe whether the dog continues to have loose stools. If not, everything is fine. If the dog still has loose stools or exhibits other symptoms, it is necessary to go to the pet hospital as soon as possible for inspection and treatment, with a focus on infectious diseases.
- Improper diet
If the owner recently fed the dog with oil-rich, salty, or strongly stimulating foods, it could stimulate the dog's gastrointestinal tract and lead to loose stools. Therefore, the owner should carefully think about whether they have fed the dog any inappropriate foods. If so, stop feeding the dog timely to avoid further aggravating the dog's gastrointestinal burden, and then feed the dog some probiotics to regulate its intestinal function.
- Cold exposure and感冒
A dog may have loose stools presenting as brownish-yellow sludge when they are cold exposed and sick. The dog may also exhibit symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, and others. In this case, the owner should promptly take good care of the dog's warmth and consult a pet doctor to choose special pet cold medicines for treatment.
- Parasite infection
If a dog has not been dewormed for a long time and contracts internal parasites such as roundworms and coccidia, it can also cause loose stools. The owner can check the dog's feces and see the worm bodies in the vomit and feces. Therefore, it is necessary to deworm the dog promptly if worm bodies are found.
- Infectious diseases
If the dog's vaccination is not complete and it has loose stools accompanied by lethargy, loss of appetite, abnormal body temperature, increased secretions from the eyes, and other symptoms, it is suspected to have contracted infectious diseases such as distemper or parvovirus. Since infectious diseases are contagious, it is recommended that the owner isolate the dog as soon as they notice symptoms and take the dog to the pet hospital for treatment.
