Dog shaking in sleep in bursts
Dog shaking in sleep in bursts may be caused by various reasons such as cold, dreaming, fear, parasite bites, calcium deficiency, body pain, and discomfort. At this time, the owner needs to observe if the dog has any other symptoms. If the dog only shakes in bursts while sleeping at night, and the duration is short and there are no other abnormalities, it may be a normal physiological phenomenon. The owner just needs to take good care of the dog's warmth or timely console the dog's emotions. If the dog shakes not only while sleeping but also shows other abnormalities, consider pathological causes and recommend going to the vet for check-up.
1. Physiological causes
- Cold
If the environment temperature is too low or it is a cold winter, the dog may shake periodically due to cold air stimulation. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. The owner needs to take good care of the dog's warmth, transfer the dog to a warm place, spread a blanket on the dog, or use an electric blanket or space heater to keep the dog warm and prevent the dog from catching a cold.
- Dreaming
Dogs and humans alike can have dreams, especially young dogs who have a strong curiosity and therefore dream more frequently than adult dogs. When they dream of exciting things, they may shake or whine periodically. This shaking is also a normal physiological phenomenon, and owners do not need to worry. The dog will usually return to normal after a few minutes.
- Anxiety and fear
If a dog is in a new environment or scared suddenly, it may shake continuously due to anxiety and fear. In this case, the owner needs to comfort the dog promptly. Gently stroke it or spend more time with it to alleviate its anxiety and fear.
2. Pathological causes
- Parasite bites
If the owner does not give the dog regular deworming, the dog may shake after being bitten by parasites such as fleas. To check for fleas, the owner can part the dog's hair and look for black granules, which are flea feces. The owner should promptly consult a pet doctor and choose safe and effective deworming products.
- Calcium deficiency
If a dog is calcium deficient, it may shake while sleeping and also show symptoms such as joint deformation, lack of energy, and unstable walking. If the owner notices these symptoms, they can consult a pet doctor for confirmation and supplement the dog with essential trace elements and vitamins.
- Body pain and discomfort
If a dog has a disease that causes body pain and discomfort, it may also shake. For example, diseases such as distemper, neuritis, and epilepsy. If the dog shakes not only while sleeping, it is necessary to take the dog to the pet hospital for examination and treatment immediately.
