What should I do if my dog's stool is soft and watery?

A dog's soft and watery stool may be caused by factors such as indigestion, abdominal cold, gastrointestinal disorders, or infection with internal parasites if the dog is not regularly dewormed. If your dog's mental state and appetite are good, you can first feed it with pet probiotics to regulate its digestion. However, if there is no improvement after two days, it is recommended to send the dog to a pet hospital for inspection and diagnosis before treatment.

  1. Indigestion

Overfeeding or consuming foods that are difficult to digest can easily cause indigestion in dogs, resulting in soft stools, diarrhea, and vomiting. To address this, owners should fasting their dogs for a day and feed them with pet-specific probiotics to help regulate their stomach and promote digestion, thereby alleviating the symptoms of indigestion. Moreover, dogs should be fed on a regular basis and given high-quality dog food that is easy to digest and absorb.

  1. Abdominal Cold

Dogs with weak bodies who often lie on cold floors are prone to abdominal cold, which can lead to soft stools. Therefore, owners should pay attention to keeping their dogs warm and avoid letting them lie directly on cold floors. It is better to lay a carpet on the floor. In cold weather, dogs can also wear clothes to protect their bellies from getting cold.

  1. Gastrointestinal Disturbances

Eating the wrong foods or experiencing stress can cause gastrointestinal disturbances in dogs, resulting in soft stools. For example, suddenly changing a dog's food, eating unclean, oily, spicy or irritating foods can affect their gastrointestinal health. In this case, owners can feed their dogs with pet probiotics to regulate their digestion.

  1. Infection with Internal Parasites

If owners do not regularly deworm their dogs, they may become infected with internal parasites such as roundworms and tapeworms, which can cause soft stools and even jelly-like stools, sometimes mixed with blood or parasites. To address this, owners need to give their dogs internal deworming medication containing abamectin and albendazole, and regularly deworm their dogs both internally and externally.

Note: It is generally recommended to deworm dogs once every three months and apply external dewormers once a month to prevent parasite infections.
