How long does it take for a dog's surgery wound to recover?

The specific recovery time for different surgeries varies. If it is just a sterilization surgery, the dog's recovery period will be relatively short, usually around a week. If the surgery is due to other diseases, such as fracture surgery, the recovery period is relatively longer, usually taking two to three months to fully recover. During the fracture recovery period, regular X-ray examinations of the fracture site are needed to determine the degree of recovery.

Signs of dog pain after surgery

After dog surgery, when the anesthetic effect wears off, the dog will experience pain. Some dogs will emit a low, continuous bark; some dogs will be restless and walk back and forth; some dogs will curl up their bodies, and their limbs may shake; some dogs will hide in a dark corner. At this time, the dog's temperament will be more irritable and insecure, needing more attention from the owner, more communication with it, and avoiding close contact with strangers and dogs.

What can help a dog's wound heal?

  1. If the wound is large and needs to be cleaned, wound suturing is required, and iodine solution is applied to the wound daily. After about seven days, the wound can basically heal; 2. If the wound is not too large, iodine solution can be wiped on it daily, and then antibiotic ointment applied. However, whether it is the above method, a cone collar should be worn on the dog to prevent it from licking the wound.

Diet for dog surgery recovery

During the recovery period, the owner can feed the dog some high-nutrition and easy-to-digest food, such as puppy food, special food for surgery recovery, moisture-rich cans, goat milk, and congee. However, do not feed the dog some foods that cause allergies, such as fish and mutton, as they can cause the dog's wound to swell, infect, and inflammation, which is not conducive to the dog's wound recovery after surgery.
