Dog Urinary Tract Itching

Dog urinary tract itching is generally caused by urinary tract inflammation, which usually manifests as restlessness, local redness and swelling, pain, itching, vaginal discharge, and constant licking of the affected area. The treatment principle focuses on local cleaning and antibiotic application to prevent secondary infections. It is best for the owner to take the dog to a pet hospital for inspection first, and then proceed with the next step after diagnosis.

Causes of Urethritis

The main causes of urinary tract infections in puppies include: poor toilet habits, constipation, and long-term holding of urine; living in a damp environment; and eating spicy and irritating foods. Once a dog has a urinary tract infection, it is necessary to take the dog to a pet hospital for treatment and ensure a dry and clean living environment for the dog, as well as avoid feeding it spicy and irritating foods.

Urethritis Symptoms

Urethritis is generally caused by injury to the urethral mucosa, leading to infection or spread of inflammation from adjacent organs. The main clinical symptoms include swollen penis, sensitivity, and redness and swelling of the urethral opening. The affected dogs often have difficulty urinating, pain during urination, cloudy urine, accompanied by pus or blood; sometimes dead or shed urethral mucosa can be passed.

Treatment of Urethritis

The treatment principle is to ensure smooth urination, eliminate the cause, control infection, and combine symptomatic treatment. The prescription is as follows: intramuscular injection of gentamicin, 80,000 units each time, twice a day; oral administration of cefazolin, 50-100mg each time, twice a day; cleaning the urethra and external genitalia with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, then injecting 1-2 ml of ampicillin sodium solution into the urethra; injection of hemostatic agent, 2 ml each time, twice a day.
