Dog urinary meatus with blue-ish matter
It is relatively common for dogs to have blue-ish matter at the urinary meatus, which is usually caused by excessive proliferation of the resident bacteria in the foreskin mucosa and frequent horseplay behavior of the dog, resulting in inflammation of the foreskin and glans penis. It may also be due to urinary tract inflammation, which manifests as purulence, frequent urination, and dysuria. If purulence is found in your dog's urinary tract, you can clean it with warm water and apply animal-specific antibiotic ointments locally.
Causes of white secretions
When a dog's urinary meatus flows with white secretions, it may be due to the following conditions: urinary tract infection or prostate infection in male dogs. During estrus, female dogs may secrete white fluids from their vulva. When a dog has pyometra, the discharge is white and smelly. Near the end of pregnancy, a female dog's vulva may secrete white fluids.
How to check secretions
It is necessary to conduct a differential diagnosis. First, analyze the color of the secretions. If the secretions are purulent, it may indicate a severe vaginal uterine infection, and more tests such as ultrasound and X-rays should be done. Secondly, check if the secretions flow from the urethra. If they flow out with urine and are red, it may indicate a urinary syndrome. Therefore, it is crucial to analyze the secretions. If unable to differentiate, investigate both the reproductive and urinary systems. The uterus, vagina, urethra, bladder, and kidneys are the main screening targets.
Treatment for purulent discharge from the urethral meatus
Encourage your dog to drink more water, apply broad-spectrum antibiotics systemically, inject 40% urotropine solution for easy urethral disinfection, and administer oral drugs to acidify urine. Combine the use of 0.1% rifampin solution or chlormayl solution to rinse the urethra or bladder. You can also treat with anti-inflammatory drugs, common treatments include ampicillin, ceftiofur, enrofloxacin, and other drugs.
