Weak and unable to stand due to soft back legs in a small dog

A small dog with weak and unable to stand due to soft back legs may be caused by reasons such as calcium deficiency, back leg injury, arthritis, and so on.

  1. Calcium deficiency

When a small dog is in its growth period, it requires a relatively large amount of various nutrients. If the owner feeds the dog with a single type of dog food for a long time, it will lead to poor bone development in the dog, resulting in weak and unable to stand due to soft back legs. In this case, the owner is advised to feed the dog with calcium supplements specifically designed for pets or liquid calcium. At the same time, it is necessary to feed the dog with calcium-rich foods, such as shrimp skin and kelp.

  1. Back leg injury

If a small dog returns home from playing outside and becomes weak and unable to stand, it may be injured, especially if it often runs through grasslands. At this time, the owner should pay attention to check the back leg and paw of the dog to see if there are any foreign objects embedded and obvious wounds. If so, it is necessary to timely remove the foreign objects and clean and disinfect the wounds. If the injury is severe, it is still recommended to take the dog to a pet hospital for treatment.

  1. Arthritis

If there is a significant pain response when touching the joint of a small dog, it may be caused by arthritis, which can also cause systemic symptoms such as depression, increased body temperature, decreased appetite, and even complete loss of appetite. It is advised for the owner to take the dog to the pet hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible to alleviate the dog's suffering.

If the owner cannot determine the cause of the problem, it is best to consult a pet doctor in a timely manner.
