Emergency Treatment for Cats Eating Wire
Cat ate wire? Here's what you can do:
Check for visible wire: If your cat just ate the wire, open its mouth to check if there's any remaining wire end. If so, use tweezers or your fingers to gently pull the wire out.
** induce vomiting:** If you can't see the wire end, try inducing vomiting in your cat. Give it 20-50 ml of hydrogen peroxide to drink. Be cautious when administering, as too much too fast can lead to choking. Normally, the cat will start vomiting within 10 minutes. Note that inducing vomiting is not recommended if your cat shows signs of distress or if it's been more than four hours since eating the wire.
Surgery: If your cat has eaten the wire a long time ago and is showing symptoms like frothing at the mouth, refusal to eat or drink, and depression, rush it to the vet for inspection. If the wire is indeed inside the cat's body, surgery may be necessary to avoid intestinal injury.
Directly pull the wire out: If the wire is still visible in the cat's mouth, try using tweezers or your fingers to gently pull it out.
Induce vomiting: If the cat ate a small amount of wire and doesn't show any other abnormal symptoms, you can make it drink 20-50 ml of hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting. Be careful not to rush the process, or you might accidentally choke the cat. Generally, the cat will start vomiting within 10 minutes. It's better to take the cat to the vet for induced vomiting if possible.
Surgery: If the cat has eaten the wire for a long time and is showing symptoms such as frothing at the mouth, refusing to eat or drink, and being depressed, immediate action is needed. Take the cat to the vet for inspection and consider surgery to remove the wire to avoid intestinal injury.
