Feline Heatstroke Symptoms

Unlike dogs, cats with heatstroke do not exhibit severe reactions. Symptoms usually include lethargy, weakness in the four limbs, unstable gait, dys coordination, sudden collapse, and swimming-like movements of the four limbs. As the condition worsens, cats may also experience increased body temperature, dysfunction of the respiratory or motor centers, and even paralysis. Some cats may also show sudden standing still or lying down with open mouth breathing, and pinkish foamy discharge from the nostrils.

Mild Heatstroke Symptoms in Cats

When a cat has a mild heatstroke, symptoms may include rapid breathing, gradually increasing body temperature, accelerated heartbeat, a red and dry hot nose, red and moist conjunctiva and oral mucosa, and sudden drooling. Therefore, when a cat has a mild heatstroke, it is necessary to help it cool down immediately. If the cat's body temperature cannot be reduced in time, symptoms such as brain edema, heart failure, and kidney failure may occur, causing death.

Severe Heatstroke Symptoms in Cats

When a cat has a severe heatstroke, symptoms may include dehydration, frothy white saliva, purple mucous membranes, convulsions, and coma. The cat's temperature may rise to 41-42 degrees Celsius. At this time, if the cat's temperature cannot be rapidly reduced, it may cause severe brain damage or even death.

Note: The death rate from heatstroke is high. If you notice signs of heatstroke in your cat, please take immediate action to cool it down and take it to a pet hospital for further treatment.
