How is the mental state of a cat with feline infectious peritonitis?

Feline infectious peritonitis, also known as feline infectious peritonitis, has initially subtle symptoms, such as weight loss, decreased appetite, or intermittent anorexia. Later, symptoms may include loss of appetite, weakened mental state, abdominal distension, rapid breathing due to excessive pleural fluid, yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, and even neurological disorders leading to paralysis. The mortality rate is extremely high.

Mental state of feline infectious peritonitis:

In the early stages of feline infectious peritonitis, the cat's mental and appetite appear to be normal. In the later stages, the mental and appetite sharply decrease, accompanied by a large number of secondary diseases, such as enteritis, pneumonia, etc. After the cat is diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis, regular injections of 376 or 441 can be given to fight for the best chance. When the cat's appetite decreases, a nasogastric tube feeding is needed.

Can feline infectious peritonitis recur?

There is a certain chance of recurrence of feline infectious peritonitis after recovery, but the recurrence rate is small. Careful attention, strengthening nutrition, and assisting in improving the cat's resistance can increase the immunity to the virus and prevent recurrence. Feline infectious peritonitis is caused by infection with a mutated coronavirus, and the clinical manifestations are mainly ascites. In addition, biochemical examination shows a decrease in the white blood cell count.

Points to note for feline infectious peritonitis:

Care should be taken regarding the cat's diet and daily appetite and mental state. Observe the daily increase in abdominal circumference. If conditions permit, an X-ray review should be performed within 3 days after each abdominal drainage to see if the rate of ascites increase is reducing. On the other hand, specialized antiviral drugs for feline infectious peritonitis, such as 441, should be used to improve the cure rate.
