Feline Inflammatory Bowel Disease

When a cat has inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, it can be treated with antibiotics and medications to regulate the stomach and intestines. There are many causes of intestinal inflammation in cats, such as common gastrointestinal parasites like trichomonas, coccidia, and roundworms. Additionally, foreign objects in the cat's gastrointestinal tract, inability to digest and absorb food, leading to edema, perforation, or feline infectious peritonitis, may also cause gastrointestinal diseases.

Treatment of Intestinal Diseases

When a cat has gastrointestinal inflammation, it may exhibit symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite. It is recommended that the cat owner promptly send the cat to a nearby animal hospital for systematic testing and symptomatic treatment. If the cat owner is unable to immediately send the cat to the animal hospital, symptomatic treatment can be given. If there is no vomiting, probiotics and antibiotics can be administered. If the cat is vomiting, it is recommended to stop the vomiting first before proceeding with other treatments.

Symptoms of Intestinal Diseases

Intestinal diseases can cause symptoms such as poor appetite, abdominal pain, soft stools, and loose stools. These are usually caused by bacterial infections, overeating, excessive food intake, indigestion, and dysbacteriosis. For soft stools, probiotics can be taken orally, with a dosage of twice a day for kittens, half a bag each time, and once or twice a day for adult cats, one bag each time. For loose stools, kaolin, probiotics, and antibiotics can be taken orally; feed small meals frequently.

Diagnostic Methods for Intestinal Diseases

The diagnostic methods for feline intestinal diseases usually include the following aspects: abdominal palpation and auscultation, mainly used to check for abdominal tumors and abnormal intestinal sounds. Imaging examinations such as abdominal X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasound. Hematological examinations, mainly used to check for abnormalities in vitamin B12 and pancreatic specific proteinase.
