Flea symptoms on cats
Cats with fleas may exhibit the following symptoms:
Itchiness and discomfort: First and foremost, the cat will feel itchy and uncomfortable, leading to frequent scratching, licking, and biting at the itchy areas. This sometimes causes local damage to the skin.
Hair loss or shedding: Fleas infesting the cat's skin can cause hair loss or shedding in the affected areas. Sometimes, this can lead to secondary skin conditions such as eczema, papules, vesicles, and pustules.
Pyoderma: When fleas infest in large numbers, they can cause a suppurative skin disease that affects the cat's sleep.
Nutritional deficiencies and decreased resistance to other diseases: Fleas can cause cats to lose weight, leading to malnutrition and a weakened immune system.
If you find fleas on your cat, it is essential to use flea control products to treat them promptly.
Frequent scratching, licking, and biting: When cats have fleas, they will be bitten and feel itchy. This leads to repetitive scratching, licking, and even biting at the itchy areas. When examining the cat's fur, you may find black granules on the skin, which are flea excrement.
Hair loss or shedding: Cats try to alleviate the itchiness by licking or scratching themselves, resulting in hair loss or shedding. Additionally, cats with fleas may display odd behaviors such as restlessness, irritability, and frequent head shaking due to fleas thriving on carpeting.
Suppurative pyoderma: When fleas multiply extensively on a cat's body, they can cause a suppurative pyoderma. If the flea population is large, you can even see fleas moving on the cat's body.
Note: Fleas are zoonotic diseases, meaning they can infect humans. Therefore, when a cat has fleas, it is recommended to isolate the cat temporarily and disinfect the living environment using pet-specific disinfectants, especially in areas with high dust levels and corners. concurrently, apply topical pesticides containing non-泼罗尼 or selenium sulfide to the cat's skin for external parasite control, followed by monthly treatments.
