Frequent Urination in Dogs
Frequent urination in dogs can be caused by increased water intake, heat, urinary system diseases, and other reasons.
- Increased Water Intake
If your dog has recently increased its water intake, it will result in more urine and more frequent urination. So, owners should think about whether the food they recently gave to their dogs is too salty or dry, or if the weather is too hot and the dog's exercise volume has increased, etc. These can all lead to the dog drinking a lot of water in a short period. If this is the case, owners should adjust their dog's diet and reasonably arrange their exercise volume. After timely adjustment, the situation will gradually improve.
- Heat
If your dog is over 6 months old, it may be caused by heat, which leads to frequent urination. This is a behavior of dogs declaring their territory and seeking mates. Female dogs usually show swelling of the external genitalia, pinkish secretions, and liking to howl, while male dogs show mounting behavior and frequently licking their testicles or external genitalia.
For this, if the owner plans to breed their dog, they can wait for 3-5 days after the dog's heat before breeding. If the owner does not want to breed their dog, it is recommended to have the dog spayed or neutered as soon as possible.
- Urinary System Diseases
If your dog shows pain reactions along with frequent urination, or has less urine or difficulty urinating, it is likely caused by urinary system diseases, such as cystitis, urethritis, bladder stones, etc. These diseases will cause dogs a lot of pain, making them unable to urinate freely and leading to frequent, small urine outputs. It is recommended to take the dog to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment.
Owners should pay attention to these signs and take appropriate measures to help their dogs. Remember, a healthy dog is a happy dog!
