How long does a kitten hide under the bed?
After bringing a kitten home, depending on its personality, it usually hides for three to seven days. Because it is unfamiliar with the new environment and people, it will look for a dark and small place to hide, which gives the kitten a sense of security. In the beginning, avoid excessive contact with the kitten. After preparing food, drink, and a place to go to the bathroom (cat sand), leave it alone for a while. Once the kitten becomes familiar with the new environment, it will be fine.
Why does a kitten hide under the bed?
There could be several reasons why a kitten hides under the bed: the kitten might be sick recently, suffering from external injuries or common internal diseases, which would make it hide under the bed; when a kitten is close to death due to illness, it would also hide under the bed.
Expressions of extreme fear in kittens
When a kitten feels extremely scared, it will try to escape immediately, or it may curl up its head, squat down, and show growls. Some kittens will roll on their backs on the ground when they are scared. These behaviors are all defensive. If the thing that frightens it continues to approach, the kitten will try to resist, clawing with its front paws, kicking with its back paws, and even biting.
How to comfort a kitten
- Feed the kitten with its favorite snacks.
- Distract it with toys it loves to play with.
- Hold the kitten gently to make it feel secure, and talk to it softly.
- Rub the kitten's chin and neck to calm it down. If the kitten is still unable to calm down, don't force it to be touched, avoid being scratched by the kitten, and let it adapt slowly by itself.
