How to clean Garfield's tear stains
The simplest way to remove cat tear stains is to wipe the cat's eye area with a hot towel every day. If the tear stains around the cat's eyes are very stubborn, you can use half starch and half boric acid powder to clean them. First, mix the powders with warm water to form a paste, then carefully apply the paste on the stains around the Persian cat's eyes. Let it dry naturally, and once the paste is dry, brush it off and wipe the area clean with a towel.
Causes of tear stains in Garfield cats
It is a normal phenomenon for Garfield cats to have tear stains, and cats with short nasal passages, such as exotic short-haired cats, are more prone to this issue. This is because these cats have shorter nasolacrimal ducts, and their tears cannot be discharged promptly. Longer nasal passages are less likely to have this problem. If you notice that your cat's tear stains are very heavy, you should consider whether the nasolacrimal duct is blocked and consider necessary nasolacrimal duct irrigation if necessary.
Symptoms of feline lacrimal gland inflammation
First, feline lacrimal gland inflammation is usually caused by nasolacrimal duct blockage, feline herpesvirus, or conjunctivitis. The main symptom is abnormal yellow-brown or milky white discharge from the corners of the eyes or surrounding areas. Second, it is recommended to take the cat to the hospital for examination, identification of the disease, and treatment. Third, daily care can use warm wet towels or makeup pads to gently wash the surrounding area. In severe cases, tear stain remover powder can be used.
What to do if Garfield's tear stains are severe
To address severe tear stains in Garfield cats, you can try the following methods:
- Feed lightly seasoned food or switch cat food.
- Replace tap water with purified water or boiled water.
- Switch from plastic food and water bowls to glass or stainless steel ones.
- Clean the cat daily with soft, warm wet towels, and then gently brush the tear stain area with a toothbrush dipped in Vaseline. Persistence can significantly improve the cat's tear stains.
