How to judge if a puppy has rabies

To determine if a puppy has rabies, mainly look for symptoms such as excessive excitement, attacking humans and other animals, fear of light and water, drooling, confusion, seizures, and so on. If so, it is basically confirmed that the puppy has rabies. The owner needs to immediately isolate it and take protective measures to avoid being bitten, while consulting with local relevant departments for disposal.

  1. Excessive excitement, aggressive towards humans

If you find that your usually gentle dog suddenly becomes irritable and aggressive, with an abnormal level of excitement, and even attacks humans and other animals without reason, it is very likely infected with the rabies virus. At this time, the owner must isolate the dog to avoid being bitten.

  1. Fear of light and water

Dogs with rabies are very afraid of light and water. They will shiver at the sound of running water, so rabies is also known as "hydrophobia." They will often hide in the dark. Therefore, when a dog suddenly shows fear of light and water, it may be a symptom of rabies and needs to be isolated quickly!

  1. Drooling

Dogs with rabies are unable to swallow saliva, which causes their saliva to accumulate in their mouths. So if you find your dog suddenly drooling frequently and looking dazed, the owner should be on alert, as it is very likely to have contracted rabies.

  1. Confusion

If a dog develops rabies, its routine will change. So the owner can pay attention to observe if the dog has a decreased or lost appetite, drinks a lot of water, walks crooked or stiffly, circles around, doesn't recognize its home, wanders aimlessly, and has confused consciousness. These may be symptoms of rabies.

  1. Seizures

When the rabies virus invades the dog's nervous system, the dog will have stiff limbs, whole-body seizures, and white foam flowing out. So if the dog can't control its body and has stiff limbs, seizures, etc., it is most likely suffering from rabies and will quickly approach death.

Note: Regularly administering the rabies vaccine to dogs is the most effective way to prevent rabies. Therefore, owners should always vaccinate their puppies against rabies. The first dose can be given when the puppy is over three months old, and then every ten and a half months thereafter. It is also recommended to avoid unfamiliar animals when going out.
