How to splint a broken dog's leg
Light bone fractures can be treated at home by supplementing calcium and nutrition, and generally resting for a period of time before recovering on their own. However, if the bone fracture is more severe and not treated and corrected in a timely manner, the dog usually cannot recover on its own. Even if it is fortunate enough to recover, there is likely to be a poor prognosis, such as limping, difficulty in movement, and so on.
Weakness in dog's front leg after fracture
A fractured front leg can cause pain, inability to stand, and weakness in the front foot. It is recommended that the owner take the dog to the pet hospital for X-ray examination, observe the condition of the fracture, and determine the specific treatment, such as internal fixation or external fixation. After proper fixation, the dog should be placed in a moderately sized cage for rest.
Severe displacement of dog's front leg bone
It is recommended to use surgical internal fixation to reposition the bone. After surgery, the owner should perform anti-inflammatory and fluid replacement treatment. During the rehabilitation period, the owner should avoid taking the dog for intense activities such as running and jumping. Meanwhile, high-nutrition, high-protein food can be fed to the dog to increase nutrition, and probiotics can be given to enhance immunity.
How to splint a broken dog's leg
If a dog's leg is broken, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for an X-ray to determine which part of the leg is fractured, and then schedule surgery. Those with severe injuries need internal fixation, mainly implanting plates or K-wires to promote bone fixation. For bone fractures where the bones are not separated, external fixation can be used to reduce unnecessary movement. Whether it's internal or external fixation, preliminary anti-inflammatory and analgesic treatment is required. Later, high-protein food and calcium supplements can be added to promote bone healing. The healing time varies from 3 to 6 months, depending on the condition.
