Can Labradors drink milk?
Labradors cannot drink pure milk. Milk contains low protein, low fat, and high lactose, which dogs' stomachs cannot absorb and digest. Especially for puppies, drinking milk may cause symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, and bloating. In severe cases, it can even lead to dehydration and death. If necessary, sheep's milk can be used as an alternative.
Can dogs drink milk?
It is best not to feed dogs milk, as drinking milk can easily cause lactose intolerance and diarrhea and vomiting. If a dog drinks milk without showing any symptoms of diarrhea, it can drink a small amount. Especially for young puppies, diarrhea is fatal, so it is better to feed them sheep milk powder, as the lactose content in sheep milk is slightly lower, reducing the chances of diarrhea.
What to do if a puppy drinks milk
First, observe the puppy's reaction after it drinks milk, as not all dogs are lactose intolerant. If there are no reactions, you can continue to feed it. However, if vomiting and diarrhea occur, owners should take it seriously and immediately take the puppy to the animal hospital for treatment. Afterward, the owner should care for the puppy's stomach, give it stomach-repairing medication, provide light food, and pay attention to warmth to prevent illness due to a weakened immune system.
Things to note when dogs drink milk
Young puppies should not drink pure milk. If they do, it is recommended to dilute it with warm boiled water and feed it in moderation. Once diarrhea occurs, stop feeding it. Puppies' digestive organs are not fully developed, and their stomachs are fragile, making them prone to diarrhea. Milk is a low-protein food, and puppies need high-protein food. Milk is not the most suitable substitute for its mother's milk. Additionally, some puppies are lactose intolerant, so milk is not the best substitute for a puppy's mother's milk. It is recommended to choose sheep milk powder, as its properties are similar to a mother dog's milk.
