What to Note When Your Pomeranian Has a Cold
Canine colds are mainly caused by upper respiratory infections, which usually accompany inflammation throughout the body. If it is a simple cold, oral antibiotics and cough medicine can help alleviate the symptoms. It is best not to bathe your dog during this period, and to keep it warm especially at night and during winter to prevent the condition from worsening. If oral medication does not show significant improvement after a week, it is advised to consult a veterinarian for targeted treatment.
Points to Note during Cold
Keep warm: During his cold, the owner should take appropriate measures to keep the Pomeranian warm and feed it related nutritional supplements.
Diet: During a cold, it is suitable to eat light foods. The owner should adjust the dog's diet structure, avoid only feeding hard dog food, and not feed too oily foods that would burden the dog's stomach. Instead, feed it an appropriate amount of citrus fruits to supplement vitamins.
Medication: Give it oral liquids such as Maxing Shigansan or Astragalus Polysaccharide Oral Liquid. Also, measure its temperature to ensure it does not have a fever or has recovered from one within two to three days.
What to Do if Your Dog Refuses to Eat Dog Food
A dog with a cold who refuses to eat may be due to fever caused by a viral infection, loss of appetite, and nausea. It could also be due to stuffy nose and loss of sense of smell, causing them to not smell the food or be picky. However, during illness, the dog's resistance decreases, and it needs better nutrition support. Therefore, not only ensure the dog's nose is clear and moist, but also prepare fresh and delicious food to stimulate its appetite.
How to Prevent Cold
The optimal temperature for young dogs is between 22 and 25 degrees Celsius, so the environment they are in should be close to this temperature. The most important thing is to reduce the number of window openings, minimize ventilation, and avoid letting cold air directly blow onto the dog. If cold air blows directly onto the dog, it is prone to catching a cold and starting to cough and sneeze. Also, avoid letting the dog lie on cold surfaces for extended periods, as this also easily causes them to catch a cold.
