Hazards of cats and humans sleeping together
Sleeping with cats can lead to many hazards because cats may have bacteria, fungi, parasites, or other zoonotic skin diseases. If the owner's resistance is low, sleeping with cats for a long time may result in infection. In addition, cats' hair falls off almost everywhere, and owners with weak respiratory systems may easily develop allergic symptoms. Therefore, it is recommended that owners should not sleep with cats and should pay attention to hygiene and regular health checks in their daily lives to ensure the health of both the cat and themselves.
- Bacterial infection
Cats usually urinate and defecate in cat litter boxes, which means their paws will inevitably come into contact with litter powder or excrement. Even if the owner washes their paws, bacteria still exist. When cats and humans sleep together, these bacteria are brought to the bed.
- Fungal infection
Fungal infections such as ringworm can be transmitted from cats to humans. If the owner's skin immunity and resistance are poor, they are more susceptible to infection when their skin comes into contact with the cat's hair.
- Parasite infection
If cats have external parasites and the owner does not give them timely treatment, these parasites may infect humans when cats and humans sleep together. Some cats also have toxoplasma, a parasite that can cause miscarriage in pregnant women. Additionally, owners are advised not to feed cats raw meat, as this can also lead to internal parasite infections in cats.
- Allergic reactions
Cats shed small amounts of hair constantly. When cats and owners sleep together, these hairs enter the human respiratory tract, easily causing allergic reactions for those with weak respiratory systems. Long-term sleep with cats may even trigger asthma. Moreover, fallen cat hair sticks to clothing and everywhere else, making it difficult to manage.
