Treatment for Canine Rhinitis

The best way to treat canine rhinitis is to find the cause and treat it accordingly. Canine rhinitis can be divided into primary rhinitis and secondary rhinitis based on the cause. Primary rhinitis is mainly caused by physical and chemical stimulation of the nasal mucosa, so treating primary rhinitis requires maintaining a clean environment, reducing dust and bacterial stimulation of the nasal mucosa, and giving the dog oral antibiotics and nose drops to inhibit bacteria. Secondary rhinitis is mainly caused by secondary diseases, so the key to treating secondary rhinitis is to treat the primary disease. If the condition is severe, it is necessary to go to the hospital in time for inspection, confirmation of the cause, and treatment accordingly.

1. Treatment Methods

If the rhinitis is mild, the dog may recover without medication. If the rhinitis is severe, you can choose to rinse the dog's nose with 1% salt water, 2-3% boric acid solution, 1% sodium bicarbonate solution, and 0.1% potassium permanganate solution.

1. Precautions

When rinsing the dog's nose, be sure to lower the dog's head downward. After rinsing, drop an appropriate amount of antibiotics into the dog's nose. To promote vasoconstriction and reduce sensitivity, you can also use 0.1% adrenaline or salicylic acid benzoate (salol) mineral oil (1:10) drops into the dog's nose, or use nose drops directly. This will promote vasoconstriction and reduce sensitivity.
