Vomiting and Inflammation in Cats After Vaccination

Vaccine Allergy

Vaccine Side Effects

After a cat receives a vaccine, it may experience some negative reactions. Common side effects include lethargy, loss of appetite, weak limbs, rapid appearance of red papules on the abdomen, and redness and swelling of the conjunctiva. Itching may also occur. Less commonly, a cat may vomit or have diarrhea. Some cats may also develop pale or bloodless oral mucosa and abnormal CRT reactions. However, these side effects are rare.

What to Do If Your Cat Vomits After Vaccination

Owners can give their cats probiotics to help with digestion. However, if vomiting persists for three to four days in a row, it's best to consult a veterinarian. Vaccines contain inactivated viruses that trigger the body to produce antibodies against the virus. Vomiting is a normal reaction as the body fights the inactivated virus. When the antibody concentration in the body reaches a certain level, the antibodies will resist and eliminate the virus when the cat is exposed to it again. This is also the reason why antibody tests are performed after vaccination.

Precautions for Vaccination

Before a cat is vaccinated, it should be in good health. If the cat has diarrhea or vomiting等abnormalities, they should be treated before vaccination. Cats should receive their first vaccine dose when they are about two months old, followed by a dose every three weeks until they have received three doses in total. After the cat receives the vaccine, do not bathe it for a week.
