What are the symptoms of dog cold?

Dogs will exhibit abnormal symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, running nose, teary eyes, increased eye discharge, depression, poor appetite, and increased body temperature when they have a cold. At this time, owners need to strengthen the warming measures for their dogs, avoid giving them baths, taking them outside to play, and prevent them from catching a chill which could worsen their condition. If the dog's cold is severe, the owner should immediately take the dog to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment. Generally, oral medication, injections, and even aerosol therapy will be used.

It is worth noting that for dogs who have not been vaccinated or are currently in the vaccination period, the symptoms of a cold are similar to those of canine distemper in the early stages. Therefore, owners need to observe their dogs particularly carefully.

Symptoms of a mild dog cold:

When a dog has a mild cold, they will exhibit symptoms such as depression, loss of appetite, teary eyes, running nose, frequent coughing, increased body temperature, difficulty eating, and a significant decrease in sense of smell.

Symptoms of a severe dog cold:

When a dog has a severe cold, they will exhibit symptoms such as rapid breathing, difficulty breathing, accelerated heartbeat, obvious high fever, conjunctival congestion or blue-purple discoloration. It may also potentially lead to pneumonia, bronchitis, and other diseases.

Note: After a dog gets a cold, owners should not give their dogs a bath to avoid accidentally catching a chill and exacerbating the condition. Also, do not take the dog outside for a walk. On one hand, the dog is sick and easily susceptible to wind and chill. On the other hand, if the dog has not been vaccinated, they do not have the corresponding antibodies in their body and are therefore more prone to infection.
