What's the cause of a patch of baldness on a cat's head?

A bald patch on a cat's head is usually caused by an abnormal skin disease, except when it's due to a glandular secretion in front of the cat's ears. This condition often occurs in young cats. Most of the time, baldness on a cat's head is caused by fungal, bacterial, or parasitic infections. It's best to take the cat to the vet for inspection and medication accordingly.

Here are some considerations when dealing with a bald patch on a cat's head:

  1. If the cat has a skin disease, check the entire body for other affected areas. When the skin disease is severe, local or even total hair removal may be necessary. Undergo microscopic examination to identify the cause. In addition to topical medications, anti-inflammatory treatment is also required during inflammation.

  2. The cat should wear a headband to prevent scratching the affected area. Keep the area dry and clean. Apply medication according to the vet's instructions. Before applying medication, clean the affected skin because many skin diseases cause continuous secretion and clotting, making medication difficult and affecting the condition.

  3. If the skin problem is caused by an infection, isolate the cat from other cats to prevent mutual infection during play. The cat's living environment also needs to be disinfected thoroughly.

  4. Regularly give the cat supplements to enhance its immune system. As the cat's immunity improves, so does the skin's defense mechanism, which can speed up the recovery of the skin and hair growth. Appropriate consumption of lecithin can also make the cat's new hair grow thicker and improve the skin's resistance.
