What drugs to use for red and swollen dog eyes
Red and swollen dog eyes can be temporarily relieved with moisturizing eye drops, followed by the use of anti-inflammatory eye drops after the medication is absorbed. However, there are many causes for dog eyes to become red and swollen, such as excessive fatigue, allergies, injuries, eye diseases, and bacterial infections. If caused by fatigue, it is recommended to let the dog rest appropriately and the eyes will recover. If caused by allergies, suggest administering anti-allergic drugs. If caused by injuries or eye diseases, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital directly for treatment.
1. Allergic reactions causing dog eye redness and swelling
Allergies can cause redness and swelling of a dog's eyes, usually accompanied by symptoms of conjunctival edema. It is recommended that the owner take the dog to the pet hospital for desensitization as soon as possible. Each dog has different allergic reactions to different substances based on their physical condition. Common allergens include pollen, dust, dander, cottonwood fluff, eggs, seafood, milk, cold air, ultraviolet rays, radiation, etc.
Therefore, attention should be paid to maintaining environmental hygiene when raising dogs. Dog food should be the main diet, and reducing the dog's contact with allergens can decrease the chances of allergies.
2. Bacterial infections causing dog eye redness and swelling
If the redness and swelling are caused by eye injuries or bacterial infections, it is necessary to take the dog to the pet hospital for inspection, collect eye secretions to identify the specific bacteria, and then treat with anti-inflammatory eye drops. During the treatment, the dog should wear an Elizabeth collar to prevent scratching and causing further infection. Also, it is necessary to regularly clean and care for the dog's eyes.
3. Mosquito bites causing dog eye redness and swelling
If the dog's eye redness and swelling are caused by mosquito bites, it is recommended to apply insect repellent to the dog immediately and wear insect repellent collars. At the same time, it is necessary to regularly prevent insect bites, suggesting applying external insecticides to the dog once a month. Avoid taking the dog to forests and grasslands during daily walks to reduce the chances of infection with parasites.
