What to do about heavy dog shedding
If the shedding is caused by a physiological reason, the owner can brush the dog's hair more often or trim it appropriately. If the usual feeding method is not scientific, it is necessary to adjust it. Feed the dog with light and low-salt food, and supplement vitamins, fish oil, and other nutritional products. Do not bathe the dog frequently or use human bath products. If the hair loss is caused by skin diseases, parasite infections, or endocrine disorders, go to the doctor in time, and treat the specific cause after investigation. For fungal or bacterial causes, use anti-fungal drugs; for parasite causes, perform emergency deworming; and for endocrine disorders, use drugs to regulate the endocrine system under the guidance of a doctor.
To solve the problem of dog shedding, the first step is to figure out what caused the shedding. Dog hair loss can be divided into physiological and pathological causes, and the owner needs to handle them according to the dog's specific situation.
Physiological shedding
Seasonal reasons
To better adapt to temperature changes, dogs will shed their hair in spring and autumn. During this period, the dog's hair falls off in large amounts, attaching to the environment and people, causing considerable trouble for the owner.
Owners need to brush their dogs frequently to effectively remove excess floating hair. For long-haired dogs, you can also trim the hair appropriately. After trimming, the dog will usually shed less. However, it is necessary to note that after trimming, the dog should wear some thin cotton clothes to prevent direct sunlight from reaching the skin, otherwise it is easy to cause allergic skin problems such as dermatitis.
- Improper feeding method
Regularly feeding dogs with salty or oily food, or using incorrect bathing methods can also cause severe hair loss. If this is the case, owners need to improve their feeding methods. Feed the dog with light food, do not feed them human food, and supplement pet-specific vitamins, fish oil, and lecithin to alleviate the hair loss problem. Also, do not bathe the dog frequently, especially do not use human bath products, otherwise it will disrupt the dog's skin's acid-base balance, leading to severe hair loss.
Pathological shedding
Skin diseases or parasite infections
If the dog is shedding hair
- Endocrine diseases
When dogs reach a certain age, they may experience endocrine disorders, which can also cause hair loss. This type of hair loss usually presents with symmetrical shedding, no itching, and changes in appetite and bowel movements. Owners can give dogs regulating endocrine drugs under the guidance of a doctor, and supplement vitamins C and fiber to improve the situation.
