What to do about heavy tear stains on a puppy's eyes
For situations where a puppy's eyes produce heavy tear stains, the owner needs to first clarify the cause of the problem and then take targeted measures.
- Clean promptly
For breeds such as Teddy, Bichon Frise, and Pomeranian, which naturally have more eye secretions, tear stains are common. To prevent heavy tear stains, owners should use wet wipes to clean the puppy's tear stains daily during their care.
- Improve diet
If a dog's regular food is too oily or salty, it can also cause heavy tear stains. Therefore, owners should pay attention to a lighter diet, avoiding foods that are too salty, sweet, or oily. Also, remember to supplement your dog's water intake to encourage them to drink more.
- Use medication or surgery
If your dog has eye diseases such as conjunctivitis, corneal inflammation, or eyelid entropion, inflammation can cause frequent tear production and severe tear stains. Additionally, if owners do not regularly clean their dog's eye secretions, leading to nasolacrimal duct blockage, tear stains will also become severe. In this case, conventional treatments are ineffective, and it is necessary to take the dog to a pet hospital for a comprehensive examination, diagnosis, and targeted medication or surgical treatment.
