What to do about stress reactions in kittens
Stress reactions in kittens are a common occurrence, and the specific handling methods depend on the severity of the kitten's stress response. If the stress response is mild, such as slightly decreased appetite and slightly poor spirit, it is recommended to observe primarily, as the kitten can usually recover on its own. If the kitten has severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and complete loss of appetite due to stress, immediate medical attention is required.
There are various reasons that can cause stress reactions in kittens, including changing main food and feeding environment, long-distance transportation, immunization, intense stimulation, and bathing. Stress reactions caused by different factors may vary. For example, stress reactions caused by changing main food and feeding environment are usually mild, while those caused by intense stimulation are usually severe.
For mild stress reactions, observation is the main approach. If mild intestinal symptoms such as soft stools occur, it is recommended to feed small amounts more frequently and concurrently use pet probiotics. Severe stress reactions often accompany respiratory and digestive system diseases and can even lead to severe urinary tract diseases and viral infectious diseases. If the kitten has symptoms such as frequent coughing, sneezing, diarrhea, vomiting, and urination difficulties, it is advised to seek medical attention promptly to avoid delay in treatment.
Additionally, it is essential to avoid stressing cats during daily life. Specific measures include: 1) avoiding long-distance transportation, especially when the cat has symptoms of physical discomfort; 2) not changing the main food for newly arrived cats and taking good care of them to avoid catching a cold or being scared; 3) after vaccination, avoiding stimulating the cat, such as giving it a bath or taking it for a walk outside. Monitor the cat's condition closely, and if long-term fever, acute rash, or facial swelling occurs, seek medical attention promptly.
