What to do if your cat seems lethargic
A lethargic cat may be due to feeling cold, having an abnormal mentality, or being troubled by diseases. First, if the weather is cold and the owner does not pay attention to keeping the cat warm, the cat will curl up and be unwilling to move when it feels cold, which may lead the owner to mistakenly think that the cat is lethargic. Simply providing warmth can solve this issue. Secondly, if the pet owner does not play with the cat for a long time, the cat will become lethargic and depressed. Engaging the cat with toys can help. Furthermore, if the cat is troubled by diseases, it will also exhibit lethargy along with other abnormal symptoms. It is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
- Feeling cold
When a cat feels cold, it will curl up and be unwilling to move, making the owner mistake it for lethargy. However, this usually resolves itself after providing warmth to the cat.
- Caused by an abnormal mentality
Cats have rich emotions and are sensitive. If the owner does not properly care for the cat, it may become prone to depression and exhibit lethargy. For example, if the owner does not spend time playing with the cat, it may feel lonely and become depressed. Or if the cat experiences a change in ownership or environment, it may become depressed due to its attachment to the old environment. Additionally, cats may also become lethargic after undergoing sterilization surgery.
Note: Depression in cats is serious and can lead to prolonged lethargy, weight loss, and a weakened immune system, making the cat more susceptible to illness. It is advised for the owner to spend more time with the cat, use treats or toys to divert its attention, and gently stroke the cat to provide a sense of security.
- Troubled by diseases
A cat troubled by diseases will also become lethargic. The owner can use a thermometer to check the cat's temperature to see if it is higher than normal, and observe the cat's eating and defecation habits to see if there is a reduction in appetite or if the stool is formed. If there are obvious abnormalities, it is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for相应的 checks and treatment.
Note: Many times, when a cat exhibits poor mental status due to a disease, it will also accompany symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, sneezing, tearfulness, and dry nose, etc., which could be due to colds, oral diseases, malnutrition, ringworm, gastroenteritis, and other common cat diseases.
