What to do if your cat is sick and refuses to eat
The answer to this question still depends on the stage of the cat's age. If a cat during the nursing period refuses to drink milk and cries frequently, it is common in neonatal sepsis. In the weaning period, cats often have poor appetite, which is usually due to infectious diseases (no vaccination or vaccination failure) and parasite infections. In adulthood, there are more influencing factors, such as anxiety during estrus, picky eating, stress, and hairball blockage.
What to do if your cat refuses to eat
Treat the symptom accordingly. Cats not eating can be harmful, and severe cases can cause fatty liver. If it's caused by picky eating, you'll need to be more accommodating and choose cat food cans or small fish chips that the cat likes. For parasites: Cats with internal parasites can develop anorexia, and deworming is necessary. For diseases: Many oral diseases can cause cats to lose their appetite, and you should first check if there are any abnormalities in their mouth. It is recommended to go to the hospital for professional inspection to identify the cause.
Symptoms of feline stomatitis
Stomatitis is an inflammation of the deep or superficial tissues of the oral mucosa, mainly caused by physical and chemical stimuli and complications of some diseases. Clinically, ulcerative stomatitis is more common, characterized by red, swollen gums and tongue mucosa, drooling, and usually accompanied by reduced or even absent appetite. The exhaled gas has an unpleasant smell.
Treatment for feline stomatitis
Treatment includes symptomatic control (control symptoms) and specific treatment (targeting the underlying cause). Thorough cleaning of dental calculus and active antibacterial treatment (using systemic antibiotics that act on aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and cleaning the oral cavity with antibacterial solutions) are helpful. In some animals, extracting teeth from the most severe affected area may improve the condition. Clinically, using bovine lactoferrin can improve cats' stubborn injuries.
