What to Do If Your Cat Salivates Frequently
If your cat frequently salivates, don't ignore it! It could be due to oral diseases or poisoning, so be sure to check. Apart from the cause of oral inflammation, there is another possibility of poisoning. Whether it's an oral disease or poisoning, you must take your cat to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment. Here are some reasons and treatments for cats salivating.
Symptoms of Cat Salivating:
Cats with oral inflammation refuse to eat coarse and hard food, prefer liquid food and softer meat, swallow cheese without chewing or swallowing a few times.
More saliva production, white foam adhering to the lips, or smooth flow. The salivation is more evident when the inflammation is severe. When checking the mouth, the mucous membrane washes, swells, oral temperature rises, feels sensitive, and the exhaled breath has a foul smell. In the case of vesicular stomatitis, various sizes of blisters can be seen. In ulcerative stomatitis, there is necrosis or decay of the mucous membrane.
Treatments:
Remove foreign objects stuck to the mucous membrane, trim sharp teeth, and stop taking oral irritating drugs.
Provide liquid food, drink plenty of water, and rinse the mouth with water after feeding.
Drug treatment: Generally, use 1% physiological saline, or 2-3% boric acid solution, or 2-3% sodium bicarbonate solution to rinse the mouth, 2-3 times a day.
For bad breath, use 0.1% potassium permanganate solution to wash. When there is too much saliva, use 1% alum or apple cider vinegar to wash.
When the oral mucosa or tongue corrodes and ulcerates, after washing the mouth, apply iodized glycerin (1 part iodine, 9 parts glycerin) or 2% brilliant blue or 1% thioglycerin emulsion on the wound. Repeat 2-3 times. For severe stomatitis, you can use sulfamethoxazole mixture (10g of long-acting sulfamethoxazole powder, 2-3g of alum, put into a bag); or take traditional Chinese medicine Qingdai powder, which has a good effect.
