What to do if your dog has diarrhea after switching dog food

1. Stop feeding the new dog food

Diarrhea in dogs after switching dog food is mainly caused by the dog's inability to adapt to the new food. Therefore, the first step is to stop feeding the dog the new food and preferably fast for 12-24 hours. Then, replenish the dog's water intake and let the intestines rest for a period of time. Otherwise, the dog's diarrhea may become worse.

2. Feed your dog probiotics

During the fasting period, you can also give your dog some probiotics to regulate intestinal function and reduce loose stools and diarrhea. Additionally, you can also add a suitable amount of pet diarrhea powder based on the dog's weight, which usually has a good effect.

3. Gradually switch dog food

It is best not to switch dog food directly. Directly switching to new dog food may stimulate the dog's intestines and cause discomfort, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Therefore, when changing dog food, it is best to follow a step-by-step approach and slowly replace the new food. For example, at the beginning, feed the dog half new food and half old food, gradually changing to three-quarters new food and one-quarter old food, and finally switching to all new food.

Note: When choosing dog food, it is best to select stage-specific dog food produced by reputable manufacturers based on the dog's developmental stage. If the dog food is of poor quality, it not only causes diarrhea but also damages the dog's health.
