What to do if your dog is loss of appetite and refuses to eat
1. physiological anorexia
If your dog simply refuses to eat without showing any other abnormal symptoms, it is most likely due to physiological reasons such as pregnancy, teething, heat, unsuitable food taste, excessive exercise, extreme fatigue, thirst, or hot weather. In this case, the dog generally has no abnormal physical manifestations, and the bowel movements are normal. The dog may experience some discomfort in its mental state. Generally, owners can try feeding the dog high-quality canned food or meat products to solve the problem.
Note: When feeding your dog, it is important to have a regular and quantitative feeding schedule to avoid stomach inflammation caused by overeating or indulging in fatty foods. Also, do not feed your dog too much raw meat or human food, as this can lead to picky eating.
2. pathological anorexia
Illness can also cause a dog to lose appetite and refuse to eat, such as fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, colds, gastroenteritis, and endocrine disorders. If your dog shows symptoms of loss of appetite along with lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, abnormal body temperature, etc., it may be due to pathological factors. It is recommended to take your dog to the vet for examination and start treatment promptly after diagnosis.
3. Anorexia caused by poor mood
In addition, mood can also affect a dog's condition. For example, if a dog does not receive enough attention from its owner for a long time and lives in a lonely and fearful environment, its mental state will naturally be poor. In this case, the dog will refuse to eat and drink, appear lifeless, and be in a low mood. To solve this, the owner should show more love and care for the dog, play with it more often, and gradually restore its appetite.
