What to do if your dog suddenly has diarrhea?
Dog suddenly has diarrhea may be caused by improper diet, abdominal cold, parasite infection, virus infection, etc. Therefore, in daily life, owners must pay attention to providing healthy and safe food for dogs and a clean and hygienic living environment. Regularly give dogs parasite prevention work and avoid keeping dogs in cold and damp environments for a long time. If your dog has severe diarrhea, accompanied by symptoms such as depression, loss of appetite, and bloody stools, it is recommended to take your dog to the pet hospital as soon as possible for inspection and treatment to ensure the health and safety of your dog.
- Improper diet
If the owner suddenly changes the dog's food or feeds the dog with spoiled food, it will stimulate the dog's gastrointestinal tract, leading to sudden diarrhea. Therefore, it is recommended to use the 7-day food transition method when changing dog food. First, add a small amount of new dog food to the old dog food, and then gradually increase the amount of new dog food until it replaces the old dog food completely. Also, when feeding the dog, pay attention to choosing food within the expiration date and avoid feeding the dog with spoiled food to ensure the dog's health.
- Abdominal cold
If the owner does not dry the dog's hair immediately after bathing or allows the dog to lie on the cold floor for a long time, it will cause the dog's abdominal cold, resulting in diarrhea, sneezing, runny nose, poor spirit, loss of appetite, and other uncomfortable symptoms. Therefore, owners should pay attention not to let dogs lie on cold floors for a long time. Also, dry the dog's hair immediately after bathing. At the same time, provide a warm and comfortable living environment for the dog in daily life, avoid keeping it in cold and damp environments for a long time, and prevent potential health problems.
- Parasite infection
If the owner does not regularly give the dog parasite prevention, the dog may become infected with internal parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, and coccidia after exposure. The stimulation of a large number of parasites in the intestine will cause diarrhea in the dog, and sometimes even worm bodies can be found in the excrement. Therefore, it is recommended that owners regularly protect their dogs from parasites to prevent and control parasite infections.
- Virus infection
If the dog is young and has not completed the vaccination, sudden diarrhea should also be considered whether it is caused by a virus infection, such as canine parvovirus, canine coronavirus, etc. Virus infections are very dangerous for dogs. Therefore, if the owner discovers that the dog has severe diarrhea accompanied by vomiting, elevated temperature, and poor spirit, it is recommended to go to the pet hospital for inspection and treatment in time to avoid delaying the illness.
